The Best Locations and More
If you’re planning an engagement photo shoot in New York City, you’re in luck. The city offers an endless amount of stunning locations and backdrops that are perfect for capturing beautiful and memorable images. In this guide, we’ll talk about the best locations we have explored for great engagement photos.
Best Locations for Engagement Photos in NYC
Central Park
Undoubtedly, the most popular location for engagement photos in New York City is Central Park. The park’s scenic beauty and diverse landscapes offer a wide range of backdrops for your photos. For instance, you can capture images by the iconic Bethesda Fountain, charming Bow Bridge, and tranquil Lake. However, keep in mind that Central Park is always crowded, so be prepared for a possible wait.

Grand Central Terminal
If you’re looking for a location with a touch of glamor and old-world charm, Grand Central Terminal is an excellent choice. The station’s Beaux-Arts architecture and grand interiors create a timeless and elegant setting for your engagement photos. Interestingly, Grand Central’s crowds can actually add to a photo, and there are several beautiful spots throughout. It’s also worth noting that GCT is one of the few public buildings that does not require a photo permit.
Brooklyn Bridge
Another popular location for engagement photos is the historic and iconic Brooklyn Bridge. It offers spectacular views of the Manhattan skyline and the East River, or conversely, of Brooklyn’s skyline. The bridge’s suspension cables, brickwork, and steel structure make for a dramatic and romantic backdrop. There’s something awe-inspiring about seeing the entire Manhattan skyline!
The High Line
For a more contemporary and urban feel, head to the High Line, an elevated park built on an old railroad track on Manhattan’s west side. The park’s industrial structures, art installations, and lush gardens make for a unique and stylish backdrop. We love the art installations and the support for artists. Times Square
If you want to capture the bright lights and energy of the city, Times Square is an obvious choice. The bustling crowds, neon billboards, and street performers make for a vibrant and dynamic backdrop. We think the best time to go is early in the morning at sunrise.
The Empire State Building
The Empire State Building is an iconic New York City landmark and a classic location for engagement photos. Whether you’re at the top of the building or on the street below, the Art Deco architecture and sweeping views of the city create a dramatic and romantic setting.
The NY Public Library
One of my favorite locations to photograph couples and weddings! Another beautiful Beaux-Arts, iconic structure, I love this area because of the ornate marble detailing. Truly one of a kind. The library also faces 5th Ave, which is never short of places to explore!
The Oculus
The Oculus, a transportation hub in Lower Manhattan, is another new and modern location for engagement photos in the city. The structure’s sleek and futuristic design, along with the natural light that floods the interior, makes for a unique and eye-catching backdrop.
The Brooklyn Botanic Garden
For a natural and serene setting, head to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, which boasts a variety of landscapes and botanical collections. The Japanese Hill-and-Pond Garden and the Cherry Esplanade are particularly popular spots for engagement photos.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art
The Metropolitan Museum of Art is not only one of the world’s most renowned museums, but also a popular location for engagement photos. The museum’s grand architecture and art collections create a timeless and elegant setting for your photos.
And last, but definitely not least, a big part of the beauty of New York City is the distinct character of every neighborhood. Your neighborhood may be a great place to photograph you in and around the areas you call home!
